El Palacio de Armiñón

The house was acquired by the family García Fuentes Pampin, in the nineties. During the whole decade there was realized a deep restoration of the whole house, preserved all the historical and artistic elements of the house.

The house was inaugurated and bless on August 22 of 1.998, coinciding with the baptism of Teresa.

In the year 2005 the family there sold to a company promoter, a part of the palace. Of the intervention realized by this company it brought as consequence the destruction of great part of the elements with historical value artistic of the Palace (dome, zagüan with stairs of stone, important cellar …).

Before the nineties the house belonged to two resident families in Armiñón, the family Meana, which never lived in the Palace, and that had it since I build to help for the agrarian labors; and the family Fernandez de Larrea that they lived in the house.

Before the families of the village that we have indicated, we have news of the property of the house it belonged to the family Paternina (Marquess of Terán).

Escudo del Marqués de Terán

Notews from Family Marquess of Teran

Today (year 1962), in Armiñón's villa (situated to 23 kilometres of Vitoria towards Elevated place of Ebro, national road núm. 1) only they remain two remains of the former power of the Paternina, the Montoya and the Urbína.

The precious and beautiful House - Palace that our relatives lived, and the perpetual chaplaincy that, though of very remote origin, it was claimed by Terán's Marquisate.

Destroyed his balconies, broken his doors and turned into house of labor, still it  presides at this house, in the small and humble local square, the Sunday meetings of this former settlement, semi-ruined now.

In his north front and in the angle northwest shows the weapon of the Urbina, [primitive Gentlemen who built it. It belonged to the Primogeniture and was alienated at the end of the first quarter of the current century. His porches are majestic and it can be said that it is only important of the villa.

If some onlooker feels desires to estimate the beauty of his lines only he has to stop the car close to the fountain of the square - in the same road - and to look at the bottom(fund). Opposite to the airy trace of this house there is situated the old church, of square tower, which with his modest proportions and austere simplicity seems not to want to reduce with his presence the importance of the house of the " Lady without but ", since it has been known for many years and there gathers someone of our writers. This legend to someone before last our that for his perfection it could conquer so nicely appellativly.

Very recently, of our writers he has annotated other one also to our family on having spoken about Armiñón's house:

" ... it is different and diverse the language that we perceive on having crossed the broad and dry stays of the houses - palaces, in which his inhabitants, though not so turbulent and martial, not because of it they stopped staying in something of his stout personality of very upright and exemplary, so tenacious, so defending men of his "honor" that "we" "see" her in the environment of those stays and he speaks to us his echo of thousand and thousand examples, not spread, but that they cry out they are already vindicated since they had to.

I have, the perceptible clamors of the Montoya and Zárates, in his Armiñón's house, of that most straight copy Don Manuel, who put as model of Gentlemen, had to accept the President's post of the Royal(Real) Chancillería of Valladolid and who put as model " they all to one were in begging it " and wherefrom still he had to go on to the Supreme Advice(Council) of Castile; and of his own brother Don Francisco Antonio, who is nominated An Inquirer of the Supreme one and then elect Bishop of Salamanca. And different so many people of the same surname that we see to put his lineage…”

Leaving the house and entering the church, we see in the side of the Gospel a chapel adorned with an altar of medium artistic taste very later to the epoch; of construction of the same one. Presiding at the altar frontal there is the most beautiful shield of weapon very well carved and preserved, simply, with the helmet abreast, that corresponds to the Urbina, which undoubtedly had his burial in this chapel.

The Marquesses of Terán - probably Don Eduardo de Paternina and Arias, with Dona Maria Jesus de Jusué and Paternina - supported the rights of chaplaincy founded by Francisco Maria and Juana Crisóstoma in 1797. In consequence, even today there is kept the habit of saying the rosary in the evenings in suffrage of the souls of all the deceased Paternina. The priest perceives for this pious labor local parson the sum of TWELVE daily CENTS (year of 1960), according to his own declaration. This is due, undoubtedly someone, to it depreciation that the currency suffers inevitably in the course of the time.

In the book of marriages that begins in 15 ... and that still is in use, we could see how many forbears' marriages were appearing...

Though we have investigated with interest, us it has not been possible to discover any sepulchral slab in this chapel, though we are sure well that there they rest.

Going down for the same street, it surrounds already of his access to the square, is, also to the left side, Montoya Urbina's palace, a beautiful copy of domestic, noble architecture of the 17th century, elegant in the balance of his proportions and in the game of the clumps and vain of his front.

In his low part there is opened a portico of five round arches, on line with the street, and two as lateral accesses to this porch in whose(which) interior they find three front pages(fronts) of the palace, lintel and molding in his profile. In both top floors balconies are opened by breastworks of iron, alternative, in the second one, by rectangular windows; the roof flies on an eaves of wood well worked in the heads of his surveys. The shields that go out to pasture on the front and the of cornel Northwest of the building show the heraldries of his gentlemen.
